Hyperspect/Multispect Sensing — Multispectral and hyperspectral imaging techniques represent methods of remote imaging spectroscopy that rely on natural radiation sources in an uncontrolled environment. This course explores remote spectral-sensing techniques and examines significant technical issues associated with multispectral and hyperspectral imaging, including basic principles of spectroscopy, phenomenology of radiation-material interactions, fundamentals of hyperspectral signal processing techniques, and hyperspectral sensor design issues. Advantages and disadvantages of spectral sensing for defense, security, and commercial applications will be reviewed and discussed. If available, there will be a demonstration of a functioning hyperspectral sensor.
